4 days and three nights.
The hike starts at the train station in Karis, where it is easy to arrive by train or leave your car. Heavy equipment for overnight stays, for example, is packed in a transport vehicle and only lunch and drinks as well as clothing needs for the day’s trip are brought in your own backpack.
Throughout the trip we will see all sorts of different types of forests, ranging from small forests in built-up areas and ecnomic forests to beautiful lush ‘magic forests’ where you could stay. Most of the time we will be travelling on paths and in forests, but we will also walk on dirt roads and some country roads.
Day 1
The first day’s route is about 17 km and we walk from Karis to Malmbacka in Snappertuna. We start the walk on paths in small forests near settlements, after which we gradually come out into larger forests and the countryside. On the way we eat the lunch we carry with us.
At Malmbacka we start with a sauna to wash off after the hike. This sauna is known for its very good bath.
After the sauna, there will be charcoal worker’s bun with the usual accompaniments for dinner.
After dinner, you can take part in a guided tour of charcoal life, how people lived in the past at their charcoal hut. You also have time for the multifaceted nature trail and other personal time. Now there is, for example, the opportunity to get your hair cut or coloured with the organic hairdresser Älva (this should be booked in connection with the registration for the hike).
Wood chopping is also on the list.
In the evening, there will be good pancakes with jam and cream as an evening snack with tea so that you can start the overnight stay in the Kolar cabins full and satisfied. In these you sleep very well because of the quiet and calm environment they offer.
Day 2
In the morning, we start with a hearty breakfast before we move on. Lunch and drinks are packed in your own backpack and other materials are packed in the transport vehicle.
Today’s route is only about 9 km because we have to do some other things too.
We start by walking through the forest down to Raseborg Castle ruins where we participate in a guided tour of the castle that lasts about 1 h. There is also the opportunity for coffee and ice cream, for example in the Castle carpenter’s cottage.
From there we walk through cultural landscapes and forests to the Raseborgtown owned camping area Lagmansstrand where we spend the night in tents.
On the way there we enjoy our packed lunch.
When we arrive at the campsite, you can, for example, swim in the sea before the delicious two-course dinner in the evening.
After that, they spent the night in tents, which were transported to the site with other equipment.
Day 3
Again, we start with breakfast before we move on. Lunch and drinks are again packed.
This day we walk about 15 km, a lot on gravel roads but also in the forest. The forests vary from beautiful to very beautiful. And again we eat the carried lunch on the way.
Once arrived at the Solfari stable in Vallarsvedja we stay in a tent or cottage and after that there is the possibility of cross-country riding with Icelandic horses. An approx. 2 hour exciting ride in the terrain with horses that are used to walking in really difficult terrain (included in the price but can be removed if you do not want to ride). Even a little care of the horses can be included.
After the ride, we take a sauna in a barrel and you can take a dip in the marsh pit so you can feel the real humus-rich water.
The last evening’s dinner consists of three courses, a little party should be. You are welcome to participate in making this if you want or go for a walk in the neighbourhood. We then enjoy the good dinner together in pleasant company. When the body and soul want to rest, it’s time to go to bed.
Day 4
After breakfast, we start back into the woods and head back towards Karis and the train station. In the station area you can shower before getting on the train or in the car. The showers are in a very beautifully renovated sauna that is worth seeing and which you can also rent for various purposes.
Today’s route is about 10 km and again some lunch on the way.
